Aquello que cantaban en “Brian Wilson” de “Drove downtown in the rain, 9:30 on a Tuesday night Just to check out the late-night record shop” encajaba perfectamente en como me sentía en aquella época. El disco tiene bastantes temazos POP, con una ironía muy fina en algunos de ellos, “Be My Yoko Ono”, “The King Of Bedside Manor”, “Box Set”, “New Kid (On The Block)… después les perdí la pista a pesar de que tuvieron cierto éxito en USA y siguen activos hasta el día de hoy, de hecho suya es la canción de entrada de “The Big Bang Theory“, casi nada.
Drove downtown in the rain, 9:30 on a Tuesday night
Just to check out the late-night record shop
Call it impulsive, call it compulsive, call it insane
But when I’m surrounded I just can’t stopIt’s a matter of instinct, it’s a matter of conditioning, a matter of fact
You can call me Pavlov’s dog
Ring a bell and I’ll salivate, now how’d you like that?
Dr. Landy, tell me you’re not just a pedagogue‘Cause right now I’m lying in bed just like Brian Wilson did
Well, I-I’m lying in bed just like Brian Wilson did, whoaSo I’m a-lying here just staring at the ceiling tiles
And I’m thinking about, oh, what to think about
Just listening and relistening to Smiley Smile
And I’m wondering if this is some kind of creative droughtBecause I’m lying in bed just like Brian Wilson did
Well, I-I’m lying in bed just like Brian Wilson did, whoaAnd if you want to find me, I’ll be out in the sandbox
Just wondering where the hell all the love is gone
A-playing my guitar and building castles in the sun, whoa, whoa, whoa
And singing Fun, Fun, FunI’m lying in bed just like Brian Wilson did
Well, I-I’m lying in bed just like Brian Wilson did, whoaI had a dream
That I was 300 pounds
And though I was very heavy
I floated till I couldn’t see the ground
I floated till I couldn’t see the ground, oh
Somebody help me, I couldn’t see the ground
Somebody help me, I couldn’t see the ground
Somebody help me
Because I’mLying in bed just like Brian Wilson did
Well, I-I’m lying in bed just like Brian Wilson did, ooh, yeahDrove downtown in the rain, 9:30 on a Tuesday night
Just to check out the late-night record shop (late-night record shop)
Call it impulsive, you can call it compulsive, you can call it insane, oh
But when I’m surrounded I just can’t stop
