Roddy Frame – “Surf”

Amazing, grace-filled guiding light
See her safely home tonight
The east-side squares’ve grown cold and loud
Since I lived there with the twilight crowd
The west end lights have lost their wow

Trail my thoughts, show me the way to the heart of her
I’m half-lost, wondering if I should follow
Or lay low
Sweet, slight arresting bright light smile Peels back the layered big city style
And reveals me in the mystery of what her world could mean to me
She’s an island girl
I’m lost at sea

When I was young the radio played just for me, it saved me
And now I don’t want anyone who wants me, baby
Tuning out the darkness
Turning on the dawn
If life was like the songs, I’d surf across the curved horizon
And forget her and be gone

So I check my map for tiny signs
Of where she’s at and where she’s been
But it’s made from scraps of stupid lines
From songs and scenes and magazines
It doesn’t tell me what it means

Take her face out of the start of the day for me
I’m half crazed, wondering if I should follow
Or let it go

Can’t get straight
Lost my way
I’m overcome by her spell

When I was young the radio played just for me, it saved me
And now I don’t want anyone who wants me, baby
Tuning out the darkness
Turning on the dawn
If life was like the songs, I’d surf into the waves
And in a splash of silver she’d be gone

Lloyd Cole And The Commotions – “Rattlesnakes”

No hay más que escuchar, “Perfect Skin”, “Down On Mission Street”, “Forest Fire” y por supuesto “Are You Ready To Be Heartbroken?”

I choose my friends only far too well
I’m up on the pavement, they’re all down in the cellar
With their government grants and my I.Q.
They brought me down to size, academia blues
Louise is a girl, I know her well
She’s up on the pavement, yes she’s a weather girl
And I’m staying up here so I may be undone
She’s inappropriate, but then she’s much more fun and
When she smiles my way
My eyes go out in vain
She’s got perfect skin
Shame on you, you’ve got no sense of grace, shame on me
Ah just in case I might come to a conclusion
Other than that which is absolutely necessary
And that’s perfect skin
Louise is the girl with the perfect skin
She says turn on the light, otherwise it can’t be seen
She’s got cheekbones like geometry and eyes like sin
And she’s sexually enlightened by cosmopolitan and
When she smiles my way
My eyes go out in vain
For her perfect skin
Yeah that’s perfect skin
She takes me down to the basement to look at her slides
Of her family life, pretty weird at times
At the age of ten she looked like greta garbo
And I loved her then, but how was she to know that
When she smiles my way
My eyes go out in vain
She’s got perfect skin
Up eight flights of stairs to her basement flat
Pretty confused huh, being shipped around like that
Seems we climbed so high now we’re down so low
Strikes me the moral of this song must be there never has been one

Aztec Camera – “High Land, Hard Rain”

“Oblivious”, “Boy Wonders” y “Walk Out to Winter” son un arranque demoledor, pero es que después siguen “We Could Send Letters”, “Pilar To Post” y “Down The Dip”.

Walk out to winter, swear I’ll be there.
Chill will wake you, high and dry
You’ll wonder why.

We met in the summer and walked ’til the fall
And breathless we talked, it was tongues.
Despite what they’ll say, it wasn’t youth, we’d hit the truth

Faces of Strummer that fell from your wall
And nothing was left where they hung
So sweet and bitter, they’re what we found
So drink them down and

Walk out to winter, swear I’ll be there.
Chill will wake you, high and dry
You’ll wonder why.
Walk out to winter, swear I’ll be there.
Chance is buried just below the blinding snow.

You burn in the breadline and ribbons and all
So walk to winter
You won’t be late, you’ll always wait
This generation, the walk to the wall
But I’m not angry, get your gear
Get out of here and

Walk out to winter, swear I’ll be there.
Chill will wake you, high and dry
You’ll wonder why.
Walk out to winter, swear I’ll be there.
Chance is buried just below the blinding snow.

Walk out to winter, swear I’ll be there.
Chill will wake you, high and dry

Walk out to winter, swear I’ll be there.
You’ll find,
Snowblind
This is life
This is life

Edwyn Collins – “Hope & Despair”

Vuelvo a escuchar “Ghost Of A Chance” y caigo rendido definitivamente.

I ain’t longing for an earth shaking romance

Ain’t partaking in some revolutionary stance

I ain’t trying to find some place to hide

I’m quite content on the outside

I ain’t searching for a brand new sound

I’m quite happy with this one I found

I’m just looking for the ghost, the ghost of a chance

Just give me the ghost, the ghost of a chance

Some people like to waste each precious day

Viewing life through an alcoholic haze

Well despite what you’ve been told or think

I ain’t never touched the demon drink

Cause I’m sound of body and of mind

And what’s more I’m witty and refined

So just give me the ghost, the ghost of a chance

All I want is the ghost, the ghost of a chance

I know you gave me credit, credit where it’s due

But if one of us is lying that the likelihood is likelihood is likelihood is it’s you

So don’t write off what you don’t understand

So much power in such cruel unfeeling hands

And you’d like to think you sympathise

But there’s one thing you don’t realise

But it’s not enough to say you care

Yet still be really unaware

That the people need the ghost, the ghost of a chance

Everybody needs the ghost, the ghost of the chance

Everybody needs the ghost, the ghost of the chance

Why don’t you give me the ghost of a chance?

Everybody needs the ghost, the ghost of the chance

Ghost of a chance?
