Ya hablé de The Smithereens por aquí hace año y medio. The Smithereens son una banda de power pop americana heredera directa del mejor POP de The Beatles o The Kinks, esa es su principal virtud y probablemente también su principal defecto, es decir, nada nuevo bajo el sol, pero como digo siempre si las canciones son buenas (te gustan) que más podemos pedir. Y ojo, en este “Especially For You” (1986), su primer álbum hay un buen puñado de CANCIONES, así en mayúsculas, empezando por la ya comentada “Behind The Wall Of Sleep” que es una auténtica delicia, siguiendo por la que les hizo famosos “Blood And Roses” que apareció en alguna banda sonora, me encanta “In A Lonely Place” un dueto con la gran Suzanne Vega, “Crazy Mixed-Up Kid” es tremendamente beatleniana, “Strangers When Me Meet” es un tratado de power pop en si misma…
Lo dicho no inventaron nada, pero treinta años después de que se editara sigo disfrutando de este disco.
