Simple Minds no tienen buena prensa, todo lo contrario la tienen muy mala. Y gran parte de la culpa la tiene este disco, “Once Upon A Time” (1985), en aquel año todo el mundo quería ser U2, y Simple Minds no iban a ser menos, también querían llenar estadios como ellos. “Once Upon A Time” era su séptimo disco y la evolución en su sonido se hizo completamente evidente, habían pasado del synthpop de sus primeros discos a un pop rock de guitarras con la voz de Jim Jerr, su líder y cantante, llenándolo todo. Yo empecé a prestarles atención gracias “Don’t You (Forget About Me)” una canción que grabaron por encargo, no la había compuesto el grupo, para la banda sonora de una película para adolescentes (lo que yo era en aquella época) que se llamaba “The Breakfast Club“, la canción se convirtió en un éxito mundial. A mí me gustaba cómo sonaba y la bailaba como loco en mi habitación, los 15 años es lo que tienen, ellos renegaron de aquella canción casi en el acto, y no la incluyeron en su siguiente disco, pero sin embargo el sonido sí era el mismo y cuando el primer single “Alive And Kicking” se lanzó en septiembre de 1985 se convirtió en un éxito inmediato y yo comencé tercero de BUP al son de ella. Ese es el recuerdo que tengo de este disco, me trae buenas sensaciones, musicalmente creo ahora que nunca me gustaron Simple Minds, pero tanto “Alive And Kicking” como “Sanctify Yourself” o “Ghostdancing” me traen buenos recuerdos. Volver a los 15 años.
