Joder es que hay cosas que son muy complicadas de explicar, es que esto hay que sentirlo, como cuando estás enamorado, ni más ni menos. El “Northern Soul”, (ojo no digo que “Southern Soul” no me gusté, que también, pero para otros momentos), está lleno de ritmo, de canciones que te hacen mover los pies en los diez primeros segundos, que literalmente no te dejan estar sentado, hay que levantarse a bailar, hay que mover pies y manos a lo loco . Es que estamos hablando de la Motown y es que hablamos de Marvin Gaye, de The Supremes, de Martha Reeves & The Vandellas, de Gladys Knight & The Pips, de The Four Tops, de The Isley Brothers , de Gloria Jones (diosss esa versión original de “Tainted Love” que Marc Almond y sus Soft Cell harían famosa en todo el mundo), de The Tams, de Brenda Holloway…. Esta recopilación “A Complete Introduction To Northern Soul” es el Santo Grial del Northern Soul, cien canciones repartidas en cuatro CDs que debería estar en cualquier discoteca que se precie, aunque se tengan repartidas las canciones por singles y LPs de vinilo, solo por tenerlas juntas ya merece la pena. Sirve también como punto de entrada a un estilo único, que sirvió para poner los cimientos del R&B que tenemos ahora, ¿donde estarían las Beyoncé y las Rihanna de turno si no fuera por estas canciones? Venga va, poneros “The Night” de Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons bien alto y dejaros ir, haced la prueba.
