MGMT – “Oracular Spectacular”

Oracular_Spectacular_2008Después de escribir de un disco como el de ayer es tremendamente complicado hablar de otro disco, todos parecen discos menores, pero así es mi modo aleatorio. MGMT y en especial en este su primer disco “Oracular Spectacular” me parecen un cruce entre el lado más accesible de The Flaming Lips y la parte más bailable de Empire Of The Sun, quedándose a medio camino de ambos, la producción de Dave Fridmann ayuda a esa percepción con ese sonido tan característico de sus trabajos. Y diréis, ¿pero entonces que hace este disco en tu lista? Pues muy sencillo, canciones, hay al menos tres canciones tremendamente adictivas, de las que se meten en tu cabeza y no hay manera de sacar, hablo de “Time To Pretend”, “Electric Feel” y sobre todo “Kids”, está ultima con un entrada y un estribillo brutal. MGMT sonaron por todas partes en 2007 y 2008, y su siguiente disco “Congratulations” probablemente fuera mejor en su conjunto, pero yo me quedó con los cinco minutos de “Kids”.

Empire Of The Sun – “Walking On A Dream”

empireHacer un disco como este en el 2008 que suene como un disco de los 80, pero que no suene a revival oportunista, no tiene que ser nada, pero nada fácil. Este “Walking On A Dream” de los australianos (mi modo aleatorio fomentando a tope mi sueño de las antípodas) Empire Of The Sun es un pedazo de disco de POP, le podemos poner los apellidos correspondientes: synth-pop, electro-pop, dance, alternativa…, pero no deja de ser un discazo de POP. Los conocí a través de uno de mis prescriptores favoritos de música de calidad, David S. Mordoh, en una entrada en Música en la Mochila “pop genial” decía en algún momento. Me bastó.

El disco arranca con “Standing On A Shore” que anuncia el camino, le sigue  un “Walking On A Dream” que perfectamente podrían haber firmado Daft Punk, o Ultravox y Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark en lo 80. Un temazo que se te mete en la cabeza al primer intento. “Half Mast” me recuerda a Men At Work, otros australianos que en los 80 tuvieron cierto éxito, y es otra de esas canciones que te trae aromas de noches de playa y fiesta.”We Are the People” suena a medio tiempo convertible en himno. Y a todo esto el falsete de Luke Steele dándole aun más entidad al artefacto.

Es probable que la segunda mitad del disco no sea tan brillante como la primera, pero no ensombrece el resultado final. Una delicia POP, de verdad.
