Calexico – “Carried To Dust”

calexicoArrancar un disco con una canción como “Victor Jara’s Hands” es toda una declaración de intenciones, arrancar hablando de Víctor Jara, el cantautor chileno torturado y asesinado tras el golpe de estado que acabo con el gobierno y la vida de Salvador Allende e inicio la dictadura de Pinochet, hizo que yo prestará mucha más atención a este disco desde el primer momento. Así conecté con este “Carried to Dust”, el séptimo disco de estudio de Calexico, mis disco favorito suyo. Calexico son un “spin-off” de otra enorme banda, el grupo de Howe Gelb ,Giant Sand, que al igual que ellos hace música fronteriza, esa mezcla de rock sureño, musica Tejana y country, propia de los estados americanos al borde de Mexico. Calexico siempre me ha parecido más accesible que su banda madre y en “Carried to Dust” eso es más evidente con canciones como la preciosa “Writer’s Minor Holiday”, “House of Valparaiso” o “Bend In The Road”.

Un disco bonito de verdad, si no conocéis a Calexico ya es hora.
