The Jeweller – Pearls Before Swine

Hay canciones que son mágicas, no sabes el porque, pero lo son. Este es el caso de este The Jeweller de Pearls Before Swine, curioso nombre para una banda por otra parte, “Pearls Before Swine”  viene a significar “no está hecha la miel para la boca del asno”, si es que mi inglés no me falla. Algo de eso hay, no diré que no, en los discos de este grupo de Folk Psicodélico.
Me encontré esta canción de manera tremendamente casual. En 1988, los sábados por la mañana, TVE emitía un programa que yo veía siempre que podía para ver a los incomparables Faemino y Cansado, el programa era “Cajón Desastre“,uno de aquellos sábados y después de una actuación de mis cómicos favoritos, una de las chicas que hacia las veces de presentadora (No, no era Miríam Díaz Aroca) se sentó al piano e hizo una preciosa versión de The Jeweller. En 1986 This Mortal Coil , el supergrupo del capo del sello 4AD, habían editado su disco “Filigree And Shadow” que incluía una versión de mi canción mágica de hoy, esa fue la que yo recuperé en el año 1988 y de ahí al original de Pearls Before Swine de su disco “The Use Of Ashes”. La magia estaba hecha.
